Quality Improvement and Safety (QI-S) Committee Update

Our PCICS Quality Improvement and Safety (QI-S) Committee continues to look forward to upcoming initiatives and projects as we enter the new year! Melina Handley, DNP, is set to complete her term as Co-Chair this month. We are excited to announce Melissa Winder, CPNP-AC, will be assuming the new role of Co-Chair, effective January 2022. We really appreciate all of Melina’s contributions to our committee, and we are excited to have Melissa in her new role.

Our QI-S Committee continues to have three active sub-committees. These include Education, Resource and Outreach (led by Marissa Smith-Parrish, MD), and Research and Development (led by Marissa Brunetti, MD). The Education sub-committee, previously led by Melissa Winder, is in the process of selecting a new Lead. The Committee is working hard to finish the development of QI resources that will be made available either on the PCICS Member website or in the Learning Management System (LMS). As previously described, these resources will include quality content, curriculum, and roadmaps aimed at helping to formulate, develop, and execute QI projects. We will make an announcement prior to the resources going “live.”

Our Research and Development team will be submitting a survey to the next call for surveys in March to understand and discern different institution’s quality processes and practices. We believe this will lend itself to interesting data collection and may ultimately improve best practices. We look forward to the survey hopefully being approved and learning from the data collection.

Last (but certainly not least!), our Resource and Outreach team is still in the process of partnering with our Education team and Amy Florez, DNP, to develop a Quality Improvement Learning and Thinktank (QILT) session. The session will highlight novel quality initiatives at different institutions, with an opportunity for brainstorming, guidance, and mentorship. Continue to keep an eye out for an opportunity to participate in this exciting new venture.

Our QI-S Committee is always open to new ideas and suggestions, so please feel free to contact myself (Dana) or Melissa with anything! We hope everyone continues to stay safe and healthy as we start 2022. Happy New Year!
