Whether it is a new diagnosis of severe pulmonary arteriolar hypertension in a previously “healthy” teenager, elevated PVR in a young child with univentricular circulation, or the unexpected presentation of pulmonary vein stenosis in an infant with repaired congenital heart disease, pulmonary hypertension complicates the care of our patients and challenges our CICU teams.

In the spirit of taking on new challenges in 2025, we have dedicated this edition of the PCICS Newsletter to pulmonary hypertension in all its forms. I hope you will enjoy and learn from our invited editorials – Dr. Grady’s reflections on the management of critically ill children with severe pulmonary hypertension, Heather Meluskey’s practical suggestions for building a successful pulmonary vein stenosis program, Dr. Kameny’s insights in caring for patients with left sided or single ventricle heart disease complicated by pulmonary hypertension, and Dr. Romer’s call to action to tackle the many unknowns in pediatric pulmonary hypertension. What’s clear to me in collating this newsletter is that multidisciplinary communication, collaboration, and creative thinking are critical to improve the care of our patients with pulmonary hypertension. PCICS is the ideal forum to share challenges and exchange ideas, and I hope this newsletter facilitates that for each of you.

Beyond the editorials, we have an executive message from Jill Zender, our PCICS Vice President, highlighting the growth and variety of PCICS special interest groups, and updates from several of those groups and committees with myriad ways to get involved.

Happy reading and best wishes for a positive and productive 2025!
