Atrium Health

The Congenital Heart Center, established in 2010, has been ranked as one of the top-50 pediatric heart centers in the country by U.S. News and World Report for the last nine years. Our comprehensive services include cardiac imaging, diagnostic and interventional catheterization, invasive electrophysiology, dedicated cardiovascular intensive care staff, and regional referral programs in heart failure/transplantation, adult congenital heart disease, and fetal echocardiography. Surgical and cardiac catheterization volume are growing at a rate of 10-15% per year. Our state-of-the-art two lab cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology suite opened in February of 2017, with dedicated staffing and anesthesia teams. Our new outpatient office complex opened in December 2020, designed to treat all patients from fetal cardiology to ACHD. We have one of the most comprehensive Cardiac Neurodevelopment programs in the Southeast, providing a multitude of specialty services to our congenital heart patients in the same office suite. Participation in investigator-initiated and multi-center industry-sponsored studies is ongoing within the Heart Center, with the support of an active clinical research department.

Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute (SHVI) is one of the Southeast’s largest cardiac and vascular programs. Sanger employs more than 110 physicians in a network of more than 25 locations to provide the highest quality care available to patients with cardiovascular disease throughout North and South Carolina. SHVI has more than 50 years of experience providing world-class, comprehensive acute and chronic cardiovascular services including the region’s only heart transplant center and pediatric/congenital heart surgery program.

Levine Children’s Hospital (LCH) is a state-of-the-art facility in beautiful Charlotte, North Carolina. LCH has 11 floors and 234 inpatient beds, including on-site PICU and CVICU covered 24/7 by in-house intensivists, Progressive Care Unit, Inpatient Observation Unit, Pediatric Rehab Unit, and Pediatric Emergency Department. Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta

For over a hundred years, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta has endeavored to make kids better today and healthier tomorrow. As the largest cardiac program in the Southeast, one of the top five largest pediatric heart centers in the nation for Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) and Cardiac Acute Care Unit (CACU) volumes, and one of the top ten largest pediatric heart centers for heart surgery, catheterization procedure and transplant volumes, Children's Heart Center provides exceptional treatment for complex heart defects encompassing patients from fetus through adulthood.

Offering the only support group of its kind in the nation, Children’s Kids at Heart program has served thousands of families providing education, meals, and emotional support. Children’s Hospital Colorado Heart Institute

Nationally ranked for heart care and surgery by U.S. News & World Report, the Heart Institute at Children's Colorado sees one of the highest volumes of patients from across the country. Here, our cardiac experts work together to provide care for all kinds of congenital and childhood heart diseases throughout the continuum. As a leader in pediatric heart care, our Institute is the only pediatric cardiac surgery program in the state, and the largest and only program to offer pediatric ECMO in the region. Here, we treat more than 20,000 patients each year and have an expansive team of over ninety pediatric cardiologists and advanced practice providers to serve our patients. The Heart Institute performs some of the highest volumes of heart surgeries in the country with exceptional outcomes that outperform national benchmarks. Our work also spans beyond our institute walls into the community and with colleagues around the country. With over ten million dollars in external grant funding, our team publishes over 200 publications each year and is a member of various consortiums, including the prestigious Pediatric Heart Network. Established in 1995, the CICU at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is one of the largest critical care units in the country dedicated to the care of children with heart conditions. Children’s National Heart Center

Located in Washington, D.C., and consistently ranked among the best cardiology and heart surgery programs in the nation, the Children’s National Heart Center includes a multidisciplinary team providing specialized expertise and support for all facets of heart disease. Our dedicated cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, anesthesiologists, and cardiac intensivists care for children and adults with a wide range of congenital and acquired heart disease. Additional expertise in cardiac imaging, cardiac rhythm disorders, interventional cardiology, and adult congenital heart disease ensures the best care across the full spectrum of cardiac disease. The state-of-the-art Cardiac ICU provides a high-tech environment and a family-friendly feel. Our physicians and nurses are experts in today’s most advanced technologies for respiratory, neurological, and cardiac conditions, and we have one of the country’s busiest ECMO programs. A physician-focused, virtual command center in the Cardiac ICU allows doctors to monitor vitals and measure progress from afar.

Children’s of Alabama

As a joint cooperative of Children’s of Alabama and the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), the Pediatric and Congenital Heart Center of Alabama is a leader in comprehensive pediatric and adult congenital cardiac care for the people of Alabama and the southeastern United States. We celebrate multidisciplinary teamwork to provide the highest quality, family-centered care; research and clinical innovation that translates into improved patient outcomes and safety; and preparing our future healthcare leaders via fellowship training. Our center includes 20 state-of-the-art CVICU rooms, four dedicated ECMO suites, and easy access to the UAB high-risk obstetric birthing suites and regional neonatal intensive care unit. On average, we perform over 450 cardiac surgeries per year including >300 cases on cardiopulmonary bypass, approximately 10 heart transplants per year, >700 cardiac catheterizations per year including 100 EP cases and ablations, >15,000 2D and 3D echocardiograms per year including >600 transesophageal echocardiograms, and >250 fetal echocardiograms. Our specialized cardiac support team includes advanced practice nurses, respiratory therapists, child life, social work, pharmacists, a dietician and speech, occupational and physical therapists.

Cincinnati Children’s Heart Institute

Cincinnati Children’s Heart Institute was formed in 2008 with the mission to transform pediatric heart disease through the integration of clinical care, molecular cardiovascular research, and education. In 2020, U.S. News & World Report ranked Cincinnati Children’s Heart Institute as one of the top programs in the nation for pediatric cardiology. The Heart Institute team has pioneered many advances in pediatric cardiology, including a first-in-nation ventricular assist device in a Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy patient, numerous transcatheter (nonsurgical) intervention therapies, echocardiography of complex cardiac malformations, and the evaluation of cardiac disease during exercise stress. Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital Heart Institute

The Heart Institute at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital is dedicated to delivering comprehensive care for patients with congenital and pediatric heart conditions, from fetal cardiology through childhood and into adulthood via our accredited Adult Congenital Heart Disease program—one of the only programs in the state of Florida. The congenital heart surgery program at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital works in a collaborative approach with other members of the team to develop an individualized surgical treatment plan for every patient.  Our expert team also specializes in managing cases of the highest complexity, including heart failure and cardiomyopathy, offering advanced therapies such as ventricular assist devices, heart transplantation, and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). Phoenix Children's

The Center for Heart Care at Phoenix Children’s, consistently named among the nation’s best by U.S. News & World Report, is committed to team-based care, bringing wide-ranging expertise together to meet the unique needs of each patient. With teamwork as its foundation, Phoenix Children’s has led the way in the southwest region, being the first in Arizona and among the first in the nation to offer several advanced cardiovascular procedures. These include Cone reconstruction for children with Ebstein’s anomaly, the implantation of the Harmony™ transcatheter pulmonary valve and the use of the CardioMEMS™ HF System to monitor children at home while they await a transplant. Phoenix Children’s averages 12- 15 heart transplants a year and has implanted one of the smallest and youngest total artificial hearts in its ever-expanding mechanical device program. Our cardiologists and heart surgeons from Rady Children’s Specialists of San Diego are highly experienced and skilled and will be with you every step of the way on your child’s journey.

Seattle Children’s Hospital

Seattle Children’s Heart Center outcomes are among the best in the nation for simple to complex heart procedures and transplants for children. We are a leader in treating pediatric congenital heart disease with one of the country’s largest programs, performing over 500 cardiac surgeries, 700 cardiac catheterizations, 800 prenatal evaluations, and an average of 16 heart transplants per year. Our heart center physicians and advanced practice providers are involved in education, research, and advocacy at a local and national level. From our hospital campus in Seattle to the Arctic Circle, our cardiac outreach program covers nearly a million square miles.

The pediatric cardiac critical care unit is a 24-bed medical-surgical unit managed by cardiac intensivists, APPs, cardiologists, and fellows. Nurses and respiratory therapists are trained to care for our sickest cardiac patients, provide neurodevelopmental care, and participate in quality improvement initiatives. We offer advanced therapies such as ventricular assist devices, ECLS, and continuous renal replacement therapies.

Our cardiac surgery APP team provides both inpatient and outpatient care for our cardiac surgery patients, including managing acute-care cardiac surgery patients and acting as first-assist in our cardiac operating room.

The UVA Health Children’s Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU) provides specialized critical care for children with complex cardiac conditions. Led by a dual-trained pediatric cardiology intensivist, the CICU has full capabilities to manage pre and postoperative patients with congenital heart disease, as well as the full spectrum of medical pediatric cardiology conditions. An active ECMO program, staffed by specially trained perfusionists and respiratory therapists, provides advanced cardiac and respiratory support when needed.
