Cardiac Intensive Care Fellowship Training Programs

Consensus Statement from the PCICS Subcommittee of Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care Training Program Directors

Thank you for your interest in advanced training in pediatric cardiac critical care. The ACGME does not currently accredit this training pathway, however, a national standard for training has been created and these advanced fellowships are accepted as the standard of care for new pediatric cardiac intensivists.

The programs in the US and Canada have collaborated to create a common application and application cycle for positions starting July 2027. Prior to accessing the form, we ask that you please complete the registration portal questionnaire. You will then be given a link directly to the application. Candidates should send the completed application directly to individual programs.

Again this year, PCICS is sponsoring formal cardiac critical care fellowship match through SF Match to streamline and coordinate fellowship positions. This is an optional match for training programs although at least 75% of programs are expected to participate. The full list of participating programs in the formal match are listed below in red. Programs that choose not to participate in the match will not extend fellowship offers until the official match date.

The application timeline is as follows:

July 1, 2026:  Registration on PCICS website will be open and common application form will be available.

July 1, 2026:  Program Directors will accept completed applications for review.  Applicants should email materials to each program individually.

July - October 2026:  Programs will review applications and host interview days. Interviews will be virtual however you may contact programs directly to discuss options for an in-person visit.

October 9, 2026: It is recommended that all applications need to be turned in by this date to be considered for November Match.

November 9, 2026 @ Noon PT: Final rank list due for programs and applicants (link for applicants to register for the match and submit rank list.)

November 16, 2026 @ 9 AM PT: Match day. For programs that opt out of the match, this is also the first day where offers will be made.

November 17, 2026: SF Match will list vacancies in 4th year training programs

Application requirements include the following:

  1. Registration questionnaire
  2. Common application form
  3. Curriculum vitae
  4. Three letters of recommendation. One letter should be from the director of your most recent/current fellowship training program or from the medical director at the institution you are currently practicing.
  5. Personal statement
  6. Copy of medical diploma

All application materials must be submitted to each program individually. Individual programs may request additional supplemental information from applicants. Interviews will be arranged by the individual programs. Please do not contact PCICS regarding the status of your application.
