Executive Message

Dear PCICS Community:

In the spirit of this newsletter edition’s theme, I asked AI to help me write this executive message.  It took 14 different versions and clarifying prompts to get it close, which highlights how AI is incredibly useful, but there’s still a long way to go.  Of course, we are only beginning to see the impact of AI in the CICU, and I imagine that things will continue to evolve incredibly quickly between now and our meeting in San Diego this fall.  Having said that, here’s what ChatGPT3.5 came up with (with plenty of edits from myself):

I hope this message finds you all in great spirits this summer! As your treasurer, I’m thrilled to share some fantastic updates that showcase our society’s growth and impact on a global scale. First, I’m excited to highlight our society’s expansion into Latin America, with the upcoming PCICS pre-conference workshop during the WFPICCS meeting in Cancun this summer. Such international ventures provide invaluable opportunities for collaboration, networking, and cultural exchange. I can’t wait to see our community continue to expand in these vibrant locales, which will also help with the continued growth of PCICS!  If you’re interested in these meetings, you can find out more at: https://pcics.org/education/international-meetings/

And speaking of excitement, our annual meeting is just around the corner, set to take place in beautiful San Diego this November 14-17. Abstract submissions, hotel registration, and conference registration are all open now at: https://pcics.org/education/pcics-annual-meeting/. Get ready for a conference experience like no other! Our San Diego meeting isn’t just about business; it’s about blending work with play. Picture this: engaging discussions by day, and unforgettable adventures by night. Whether it’s exploring the stunning coastline, indulging in world-class cuisine, or simply soaking up the California sunshine, there’s something for everyone at our San Diego meeting.  I’ve personally put together a social guide to San Diego, with input from many of my colleagues here at Rady Children’s Hospital, which will help you and your teams plan how to spend your evenings here in San Diego. It should be available on the meeting website soon.

But amidst all the fun, we’re also hard at work on fundraising initiatives to support our mission of international expansion and expanding educational opportunities and resources in our field. By rallying together and leveraging our collective passion and expertise, we can make a meaningful impact on the care of children with critical cardiac disease worldwide. Some of the things that our fundraising this year has helped support include our Latin American expansion, resources and translation of materials for the Cancun meeting and others, enhancing our patient, family, and international involvement at our San Diego meeting, and the continued development of the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Foundation, which is planning some exciting and fun fundraising events in conjunction with our annual meeting.  Stay tuned for more details, but if you want to donate to the PCICF, you can do so here: https://pcicf.org/.

And let’s not forget about the exciting discussions on the horizon, particularly on the topic of artificial intelligence (AI). Our opening plenary in San Diego “The Future of the CICU” will set the stage for dynamic conversations on how AI is revolutionizing patient care, including its integration into cardiac intensive care units (CICU). It’s an opportunity you won’t want to miss!

So, pack your bags, dust off your sunglasses, and get ready for an unforgettable experience in San Diego. Let’s harness the power of AI, embrace the spirit of adventure, and make memories that will last a lifetime.

Thank you all for your unwavering support and dedication to our shared vision.

Warm regards,

David Werho, MD
